I’m absolutely thrilled you’re here.
You know, for what feels like ages, my friends and family have been gently nudging, and sometimes not so gently, telling me, ‘You need to share your cooking! You need to start a YouTube channel!’ And honestly, after years of hearing that, I finally thought, ‘You know what? They’re right!’ So, here I am, finally taking the plunge.
Now, a little about me. I’m a proud blend of two vibrant cultures: half Puerto Rican and half Dominican. And let me tell you, the food from both sides of my heritage? It’s simply incredible. I’ve always been fascinated by the rich tapestry of flavors, the unique spices, and the heartwarming traditions that come with each cuisine. It’s not just about eating; it’s about experiencing a piece of history, a taste of home.
One of the biggest reasons I decided to start this channel is because I’m constantly getting phone calls, text messages, even voice notes! ‘How do you make that amazing mofongo?’ ‘What’s the secret to your sancocho?’ ‘Can you share that arroz con gandules recipe?’ And I realized, instead of answering each call individually, why not create a space where I can share my cooking with everyone? A place where we can all learn and enjoy together.
My love for cooking started when I was just a kid. I was probably around nine years old, always hovering around the kitchen, eager to learn from my mom, my aunts, my abuelas. I’d watch them chop, stir, and season, and I was completely mesmerized. Even then, I’d grab a notebook and try to write down everything I saw, every ingredient they used, every technique they employed. I was a little culinary detective!
And then, there are my summers in Puerto Rico. Oh, those summers! They truly ignited a fire within me. The vibrant markets, the bustling kitchens, the aroma of spices filling the air – it was a sensory explosion. Every meal was a celebration, a testament to the joy and beauty of food. I watched how they cooked, not just as a task, but as an expression of love and community. It was there, amidst the warmth and laughter, that I truly understood the power of food to connect people.
Cooking, for me, is more than just a hobby; it’s my happy place. It’s where I find peace, where I can express my creativity, and where I can keep my culture alive. And honestly, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the genuine delight on someone’s face when they try my Caribbean dishes for the first time. That moment of pure joy, that’s what makes it all worthwhile.
So, join me on this culinary adventure! We’ll explore the delicious flavors of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, share family recipes, learn new techniques, and most importantly, have fun in the kitchen.
Let’s create some unforgettable meals together!
